Lecture Series #2 — “Harriet Beecher Stowe: The Little Lady Who Started That Great War”

Ms. Belcher will present the background, the life and family of Harriet Beecher Stowe, and the personal events which led up to the writing of her most famous book, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”.  After a brief synopsis of the book, we’ll look at various African-American men and women with whom Stowe had contact and how they influenced her writing.  Some original sources, such as letters written by Stowe, will be read, as well as excerpts from her books.
